Daniel Suer studied music education and English at the University of Siegen (1. Staatsexamen), as well as musicology at the Cologne University of Music and Dance (M.A.). He completed his PhD as part of a DFG-funded research project on the relation between music and dance in metal at the University of Siegen. For this work, he received the Dissertation Award of the German Musicological Society. Since 2025, he has been a research associate at the Nuremberg University of Music. He taught at the universities of Braunschweig, Cologne, and Siegen, and has been a board member of the German Society for Popular Music Studies (GFPM) since 2020. His research interests include, among others, qualitative-empirical research methods, metal studies, and the corporeality of popular music cultures.
