NUM has two major sustainability projects on its agenda this year.
Sustainability strategy
Firstly, we are developing a sustainability strategy for NUM. This process will begin in cooperation with the five other Bavarian art colleges and then be further developed by NUM. It will be guided by the Sustainability Strategy Steering Group, whose members cover all areas relevant to the university - governance, teaching, research, operations, ransfer and student engagement. Although the final strategy will not be available until the middle of next year, the upstream process is crucial to reviewing existing activities, identifying needs and implementing long-term, targeted projects on this basis.
Triple bottom line
On the other hand, by the end of the year a greenhouse gas balance will be drawn up for Nuremberg University of Music for the first time. An administrative team has been set up for this purpose. The aim is to determine the actual emissions and develop specific reduction paths. In between these major tasks, we are planning smaller pilot projects on which we will provide regular updates.
Staff responsibilities
A number of people are involved in organising and structuring the various sustainability tasks. One innovation is that the university management has appointed four sustainability officers at NUM. Prof Dr Martin Ullrich is responsible for teaching and research, while Anna Körber is responsible for administration. Simona Hellwig and Fiona Zimmermann are sustainability officers for the student body. Within the university management, President Prof. Rainer Kotzian and currently Vice Chancellor Marina Weber are responsible for sustainability issues.
Naomi Pappenberger-Muench and Richard Pilhofer are also based at NUM as sustainability coordinators for the Bavarian art colleges.
They meet monthly in the ExCom Sustainability to discuss current sustainability issues and make decisions. In addition to this format, the Sustainability Jour Fixe meets four times a year. Everyone is welcome to attend, contribute ideas and suggestions, and participate.
We value a collaborative and dialogue-based exchange. If you have any questions or ideas about sustainability, please contact the Sustainability Officers.
