Prof. Kotzian, who has led the university since October 2021, reaffirmed his commitment to transformation, innovation, and fostering a strong sense of community. In recent years, he has driven forward the future-oriented development of courses, the continuous professionalisation of teaching, and open, communicative change management.
Commenting on his re-election, Prof. Kotzian said:
To me, the Nuremberg University of Music is a place where artistic creativity, pedagogical responsibility and social relevance converge. In a time of change, we want to rethink our study programmes, try out new teaching formats and support our teaching staff — not to replace the old, but to shape the future together with our students. Change requires courage, curiosity, and a willingness to learn together. I would like to create the framework for this in the coming years — with structure, dialogue, and enthusiasm for what art and education can achieve.
Professor Kotzian is a nationally and internationally recognised expert in Elemental Music Pedagogy and the Orff-Schulwerk approach. He has been a professor of music at Nuremberg University of Music since 2010, having previously held several management positions including Dean of Studies and Vice President. He is chairman of the association of the six Bavarian art colleges, Kunsthochschule Bayern, and sits on the board of the Rectors' Conference of German Universities of Music (Rektorenkonferenz der deutschen Musikhochschulen in der HRK, RKM).
His re-election represents a clear commitment to continuity and the consistent further development of the university in dialogue with society, the arts, and academia.
