On 15 and 16 March 2024, the 5th Nuremberg Percussion Competition of the Professor Hermann Schwander and Renate Ott-Schwander Foundation was held in the orchestra hall of the university.

The students performed in two rounds in front of the distinguished jury. Marianna Bednarska (Warsaw), Prof Lukas Böhm (Berlin) and Prof Emmanuel Séjourné (Strasbourg) awarded the prizes as follows:

1st prize (3000 euros): Jingxue Ren (Munich University of Music and Theatre)
2nd prize (2000 euros): Jieyang Cui (Würzburg University of Music)
3rd prize (1000 euros): Ben Hartmann (Nuremberg University of Music)

New this year was the world premiere of the compulsory piece "How to make a sword" by Sihun Cha, composed especially for the competition. The student of Professor Peter Gahn won the composition competition organised by the Professor Hermann Schwander and Renate Ott-Schwander Foundation last year.

The prizewinners' concert took place on 16 March, and the prize was awarded by the founders, Hermann and Renate Schwander, and the President of the Foundation, Prof. Rainer Kotzian.

We congratulate the winners and thank the Professor Hermann Schwander and Renate Ott-Schwander Foundation for their financial and organisational support!
