The day started with an energetic body percussion session to warm up the participants in a playful and rhythmic way. They were then allowed to get active themselves: Working in groups, they tried out different percussion instruments, worked out rhythms and developed grooves together - changing instruments from time to time, of course, so that everyone could experience different sounds and playing styles.
A special highlight was the performance of two students from Prof. Szarek's percussion class, who performed an impressive piece as a duo. In the discussion that followed, the students had the opportunity to ask the two musicians questions about their path to the instrument, their studies and their experiences as women in a field still dominated by men. The Oenheit and authenticity of the students made this exchange an inspiring moment for many of the young participants.
At lunchtime, the programme continued with another highlight: in the "Conducting Campus" competition, a classic silent film by Walt Disney was accompanied live by an orchestra, including percussion, of course. The combination of film, music and live performance was an impressive demonstration of the importance of percussion in the orchestra.
At the end of the day, things got lively and loud again: Brazilian samba rhythms were tried out together and music was played on various percussion instruments. Girls' Day ended full of energy, inspiration and new impressions - a very successful day that was clearly enjoyed by all involved.
A big thank you to Prof. Szarek, his class and everyone involved - we are already looking forward to next year!
