Born in Nagasaki in 1997, Kanahi Yamashita has been touring the USA, Europe and Asia with the 'Kazuhito Yamashita Family Quintet' since early childhood. She made her solo debut at the age of 13 as part of worldwide duo concerts with her father.
She has lived in Berlin since 2015, where she completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in guitar performance at the Berlin University of the Arts under Prof. T. Müller-Pering, later continuing her studies at the Nuremberg University of Music with Björn Colell. In 2021, she released her debut solo album, Selected Works VIII – Guitar Solo: Kanahi Yamashita", featuring works by Carlo Domeniconi, with whom she underwent intensive musical training for many years.
She has performed at international festivals and on stages around the world as a soloist and chamber musician, including in Switzerland, Italy, Bulgaria, Poland, the USA and Mexico. In 2024, she undertook two major tours of Japan, including a performance with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
Kanahi was a scholarship holder of the Yamaha Music Foundation from 2016 and of the Rohm Music Foundation from 2020. She was a semi-finalist in the 66th ARD Music Competition in Munich in 2017. She has won various competitions, including the 'Deutscher Gitarrenpreis 2019' in Darmstadt, and second prize at the 10th International Martinez Guitar Competition in Iserlohn in 2021. Since 2021, she has been a Yamashita D'Addario artist.
