Charlotte Müller is a research associate in musicology with a focus on music-specific gender studies. She studied Cultural Economics (B.A.) at the Universities of Passau and Strasbourg, as well as Sociocultural Studies (M.A.) at the Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder). In her master’s thesis, she examined subversive gender performances in orchestral conducting and the role of the body in music interpretation and musical leadership. She presented her empirical research at international conferences in Vienna, Helsinki, and London among others, and was awarded the 2nd Prize of the Best Paper Award by the Society for Music Economics and Music Culture Research (GMM).
From 2020 to 2022, she worked as a research assistant for the Chair of Comparative Cultural and Social Anthropology under Prof. Dr. Kira Kosnick at the Europa-Universität Viadrina. Through her involvement in orchestras and professional experiences, including an international youth orchestra festival and a European streaming platform for performing arts, she also has a practical engagement with music.
Her research focuses on intersectional issues of artistic participation, visibility, representation, and solidarity, particularly in conducting and composing. She engages with both performative and structural approaches to promote diversity and inclusion in music culture.
The research associate position is affiliated with the endowed professorship for music-specific gender studies under Prof. Dr. Susanne Rode-Breymann.
