Tingyi Yang was born in Shenyang, China. She received her first violin lessons from Zhao Ge at the secondary school of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. Since 2020, she has studied at the Nuremberg University of Music in the violin class of Prof. Dr Reto Kuppel, successfully completing her Bachelor's degree.
She has also gained artistic inspiration from masterclasses with Florin Paul and Juan Salvador Raya. During her studies, she also served as concertmaster of the Nuremberg University of Music orchestra. In 2020, she won both the special prize and the gold medal at the ‘Best Classical Musicians Award’ competition. She also won prizes in the violin and solo categories at the 4th 'Global Star Music Competition'.
From August 2025 to May 2026, she was a trainee second violinist with the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra.
She is currently completing her Master's degree at the Nuremberg University of Music. Since June 2026, she has held a fixed-term contract as a second violinist with the Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach.
