News SONIQ-M Project Receives Over €3.4 Million in Funding

The Nuremberg University of Music and its SONIQ-M project (Self-Organised Networked Innovative Qualifying Bachelor of Music), developed by Emine Yaprak Kotzian and Julia Carls, have been selected for funding in the “The world is my campus” competition organised by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education. The project is expected to receive more than €3.4 million in funding and is scheduled to start on 1 July 2026. We are delighted about this major success and congratulate the initiators.

The selection represents a particular success: 219 applications were submitted nationwide, of which only 29 projects from universities and university alliances were selected for funding. The Nuremberg University of Music is the only music university in Germany to receive funding.

SONIQ-M was developed and submitted by Emine Yaprak Kotzian, academic staff member for Digital Music Pedagogy and Media Didactics, and Julia Carls, consultant for system accreditation. Their concept lays the foundation for a new study architecture that will be developed, tested, and academically evaluated over the next four years.

SONIQ-M is the Nuremberg University of Music’s response to the demands of a changing professional and educational landscape. It focuses on new forms of learning and studying that support students in developing individual profiles and preparing for a broad range of career paths.

The call for proposals “The world is my campus” promotes projects with model character and transfer potential for other higher education institutions. SONIQ-M is therefore intended not only to provide impetus for the further development of study programmes at the Nuremberg University of Music, but also to open up new perspectives for music higher education in German-speaking countries.
