The instruments are a Jaques Pierre Thibout violin from Paris, dating to around 1820, and a Claude Pirot violin from Paris, dating to 1801.
Established in 2015, the Hiltner-Wolf Foundation promotes academia, art and culture. It was founded by Claus Hiltner following an inheritance from his uncle's estate, Dr Walter Wolf. Mr Hiltner became aware of Nuremberg University of Music when he attended a concert in the jazz series at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum.
Since 2023, the foundation has supported the university continuously and substantially. To date, a total of €30,000 has been provided for German scholarships, and an additional €6,000 has been allocated for the NUEComer Jazz Award in 2025. This commitment is being expanded in a special way with the donation of two valuable historical violins.
From the summer semester of 2026, the violins will be awarded as part of an annual audition process for students at the university, with funding provided through a Deutschlandstipendium scholarship.
The Nuremberg University of Music would like to thank the Hiltner-Wolf Foundation and Claus Hiltner expressly for their extraordinary trust, sustained support, and outstanding cooperation in promoting young musical excellence.
