A total of 25 young violists from Europe, Asia and the Americas took part in the competition. Participants came from countries including Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Finland, South Korea, China and the USA. This provided a valuable opportunity for up-and-coming violists from diverse musical backgrounds to compete against each other.
Gianmaria Nobile, born in 1999, is an Italian violist. Currently deputy principal violist with the WDR Funkhaus Orchestra in Cologne, he performs regularly with other orchestras, including the HR Symphony Orchestra and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg.
He is also active as a soloist and chamber musician in the concert series organised by the International Lyceum Basel, and was a founding member of the ‘Konzerte am Ausserberg’ concert series in the same city.
In June 2026, he won third prize at the Beethoven Competition in Hradec.
Having completed his studies in Basel, Switzerland, he is now continuing his musical development in Nuremberg, Germany, with Prof. Andreas Willwohl.
