Our Professor of Jazz Double Bass, Robert Lucaciu, was awarded the German Jazz Award in the “String Instruments” category on 25 April 2026. We warmly congratulate him on this outstanding achievement.

Robert Lucaciu (*1988 in Plauen, Vogtland) is a German-Romanian jazz musician. He grew up in a musical family and initially received classical training on the cello before turning to the double bass. This classical background continues to shape his artistic work and forms the foundation of his music at the intersection of classical music, contemporary music, jazz, and improvisation.

In recent years, Robert Lucaciu has established himself as an integral part of the German jazz scene. His work as a duo with vibraphonist and percussionist Evi Filippou, as well as with his own sextet Fallen Crooner, is particularly noteworthy. In addition to his own projects, he is a sought-after sideman in various European ensembles.
