On 16 April 2026, the winners of the THE NEXT THING start-up competition were honoured at the Ohm Innovation Centre in Nuremberg. The competition showcases start-up projects from Performance Practice and demonstrates how entrepreneurial ideas evolve from them. Seven of the eighteen projects submitted were recognised. Third prize (€3,000) went to Barock Plus – NUM, consisting of Anna Rudolph, Tabea Wink, Dominik Heidl and Marie Wunder.
Barock Plus impressed the jury with its high artistic quality, professional performance, and the development of innovative musical formats. The jury particularly recognized the successful combination of historically informed performance practice, audience engagement and outreach, as well as the project’s strong potential for future development.
Congratulations to the ensemble on this award!
Rainer Kotzian, President of the NUM Nuremberg and the Bavarian University of the Arts Association, opened the award ceremony. The event also featured a digital message of greeting from Markus Blume, Minister of State. They both praised the nominated projects as examples of the innovative potential of Performance Practice, emphasising the importance of start-ups at the intersection of art, society, and entrepreneurship.
An artistic supporting programme accompanied the event, featuring music by the Pelagic Duo (Taeeun Kim and Rapolas Bartulis, NUM) and visuals by Erik Dittert (AdBK Nuremberg).
