Dawoon Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1995. After attending Yewon Art School, Seoul Arts High School and Yonsei University, she went on to study at the Nuremberg University of Music, where she is currently taking part in a Master Class with Prof Jakob Spahn. She has participated in masterclasses led by David Geringas, Arto Noras, and Jérôme Pernoo, among others. She was an academist at the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden and currently holds a temporary contract as deputy solo cellist at the Komische Oper in Berlin.
She has performed as a soloist with various orchestras. For example, in 2019 with the Symphony Orchestra for the Next Generation (S.O.N.G.), in 2022 with the Symphony Orchestra of the Nuremberg University of Music and most recently in 2023 with the Schwabacher Kammerorchester and the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Dawoon Kim has also won numerous prizes at major national and international competitions:
First Prize at the Yewon Competition for Children in 2006, the Umag-Chunchu Music Competition, the TBC Competition and
In 2007, she won the 1st Prize at the 15th Vienna International Music Competition Korea, the Peters Music Competition, the Yewon Music Competition and the Sungjung Competition. She also won the 1st Prize at the 8th National Music Competition by the Korean Chamber Orchestra and the Goyang City Competition. She also won a prize at the Goyang City Competition and first prize at the "The Music" Competition.
2010: First Prize and Special Prize of the Minister of Culture at the Daegu Broadcasting Corporation; Gold Prize at the Sungjung Music Competition;
2017: Second Prize at the 38th Busan MBC Music Competition; First Prize at the Music Competition of the 'Music Educational New Agency'.
Second Prize at the 58th Dong-A Music Competition in 2018.
