News Success Daniel Simkin Joins BLJO

Daniel Simkin, junio student in Prof. Dr Reto Kuppel’s class, has won the audition for the BLJO (Bavarian State Youth Orchestra) and and will soon join the ensemble as first violinist. Congratulations!

Daniel Simkin (born 2011) began taking violin lessons from his father at the age of three. From 2018 to 2025, he studied with Krystyna Jadwiga Faupel, former concertmaster of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra and the South West German Philharmonic Orchestra in Constance. Since 2025, he has been a student on the highly gifted promotion programme at the Nuremberg University of Music, studying in the class of Prof. Dr Reto Kuppel. He has also gained artistic inspiration through lessons and masterclasses with renowned teachers and musicians, including Anna Reszniak-Vogt (concertmaster of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra), Mimi Zweig (USA), Kurt Saßmannshaus (USA), Prof. Christiane Hutcup (Germany), Prof. Lajos Földesi (Hungary), Prof. Pavel Fischer (Czech Republic/UK) and Prof. Sebastian Müller (UK/Austria).

Daniel Simkin is a multiple prizewinner of the ‘Jugend musiziert’ competition. His most significant honours include the Sparkassen Sponsorship Award (2023), first prizes with the highest marks at regional and state level, and second prizes in the piano and strings duo category in 2024 and the solo violin category in 2025.

Since 2021, he has played with the Junge Fürther Streichhölzer, including as section leader and concertmaster. In 2025, he performed as a soloist with the IMS Interlaken Youth Orchestra. Following a successful audition, he was accepted into both the VBW Festival Orchestra of the Festival of Nations and the Junge Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg. In the same year, he performed with Igor Levit and went on a concert tour of England with the KlangLust! Chamber Orchestra. Following a successful audition in 2026, he was accepted into the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra, with upcoming projects under the direction of Ustina Dubitsky and Sir Simon Rattle.

Following a recommendation from his secondary school, he was accepted into the Middle Franconia Programme for Highly Gifted Students in 2025.
