Concerts
For several years, Prof. Amy Lin (piano, Strasbourg Conservatoire) and Prof. Dr Reto Kuppel (violin, Nuremberg University of Music) presented one concert each semester in the university’s chamber music hall, dedicating each evening to a different violin sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven. The sonatas were complemented by short preludes for violin and piano by composers from various periods, including Lera Auerbach, Frédéric Chopin, Charles Gounod, Fritz Kreisler, Paul Hindemith, Max Reger, Carl Gottlieb Reißiger, Eugène Ysaÿe, Arcangelo Corelli, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Dmitri Shostakovich, Alexander Scriabin and George Gershwin. These combinations gave each Beethoven sonata additional presence and impact.
Presentation
A distinctive feature of the concert series was the involvement of students from the Nuremberg University of Music, who presented the concerts. With the support of Prof. Jeremias Schwarzer, they created informative and lively introductions, adding a personal touch to the evenings and offering audiences different ways to engage with the music.
Recording
The concert series also led to a recording project in the university’s concert hall. Beginning in 2017 and completed with the recording of the Kreutzer Sonata, the project resulted in a complete Beethoven violin sonata cycle. For the final recording, Prof. Toni Hinterholzinger joined the project as sound engineer. The complete cycle is now available on all major streaming platforms and on YouTube.
