The sixth annual percussion competition for Bavarian music students took place on 6 and 7 March at the Nuremberg University of Music. Organised by the Prof. Hermann Schwander and Renate Ott-Schwander Foundation, the competition is open to students from the three Bavarian music academies and the University of Augsburg.

Each institution was permitted to enter two candidates into the competition. Six students registered this year, but only five took part due to health reasons.

Following the first round on Friday afternoon, the jury decided to advance all students to the second round. On Saturday morning, the large audience enjoyed five outstanding performances. The compulsory piece was Joongkyu Sun's composition "raschhineilend". This piece won the last composition competition, which takes place alternately with the percussion competition.

The certificates were presented during the prizewinners' concert in the evening by the sponsors and jurors.

The competition results are as follows:

1st prize: Mr Ziyi Liu (HMTM Munich)

1st prize: Mr Im Byeongyeon (HMTM Munich)

Prize: Ms Paiwen Rao (Nuremberg University of Music)

Congratulations to all the prize winners and participants in the competition.

Many thanks also to this year's competition jury:
Professor Marta Klimasara (Stuttgart), Florian Müller (Salzburg) and Eckhard Kopetzki (Sulzbach-Rosenberg).

And, of course, a very special thank you to the sponsors of the competition: Mrs Renate Ott-Schwander and Prof. Hermann Schwander, without whom this great event would not be possible!
